Marooned on a river island above the Arctic Circle, caught by a flash flood in New Zealand, boated with a NFL cheerleader in the Caribbean, robbed in a British Columbia motel, and bunked with an almost-terrorist in Manitoba, this preacher from Colorado has had some interesting experiences, to say the least, when going “further out” to fish. Some of those trips north and south, east and west—beyond continental United States—are told in these pages.
I invite you to go with me as I fly-fish and explore worldwide waters and lands. You will enjoy the adventure stories, plural, and one story that brackets and underlies the several. Stories and story, then, await you.

How do we undergird Christian enthusiasm with Christian substance? Brief Christian Histories combines biblical and ecclesial history in a single volume, taking readers through 4000 years of our religion's history using four themes of interest:
WHO has led us?
HOW have we been guided ethically?
WHAT have been our faith practics and pieties?
WHERE hav we interacted with culture and to what effect?
Reading any one chapter will give readers a feel for the Christian narrative as a whole. Reading two or more narratives will broaden readers' understanding of where we have come from_all to help understand this big religion of ours, deepen ourselves in it, and keep our faith fresh and moving forward. We move for God's New Order (basileia)_about which Jesus taught, for which he taught us to pray, and int which he invites our enthusiastic sojourning.
In 2005 my wift Patti and I did a 500-mile walk of the Camino de Santiago del Compostela in Spain. We went through many cathedral, Monastery and museum doors, discovering sometimes beautiful and always-instructive story-art inside.

This is a story of a fishing friendship that began almost fifty years ago. Back then the Round Boys each weighed no more than 160. Today, they are more substantial—well-ballasted for powerful big river currents—and over the years they've had a lot of GREAT ADVENTURES. In addition, they've learned some things about fly fishing in the northern and central Rocky Mountain waters. So, these adventures and some of the things they've learned are what this book is about. The author writes: "I think the reader will enjoy the travelogues, information on various fisheries, the banter, and, along the way, he/she may gain some angling insights, especially about still water fly-fishing. My goal is to do what John Gierach in The View from Rat Lake says he wants to do: '...tell the plain truth about fly-fishing and still be a humorist.'"

This compact, accessible book introduces the major concepts of the Christian faith in a quick, easy-to-read fashion. Jams White begins with a brief overfiew of Christian history from biblical times to the present, with references to key people and events that shaped the faith. He follows this with sections on God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. For each of these topics he sketches the basic ideas of the Bible and then shows how Christians in different centuries and contexts have applied these ideas to their own lives and circumstances.
By showing us the variety of Christian ideas about God through history, White helps us understand how it all fits together. The end result is an inspiring overview of Christianity in its theological diversity and its continuing relevance for today, showing believers just how rich this deep tradition of faith can be. The book includes discussion questions and is ideal for use in adult study groups.
